Why you should choose Sproud Barista instead of cow’s milk for your coffee 

Well, the environmental impact is a huge reason. But before we get into that, let us talk about how easy the switch from cow’s milk to Sproud is for coffee lovers. Our Barista drink tastes and looks like milk – and has similar texture. 

It blends beautifully with hot drinks, froths without effort and complements the flavour of coffee better than many other plant-based alternatives. So first of all, the switch is easy. Now let us get back to the environment. 

Producing cow’s milk requires 25 times more water than our pea alternative. Even amongst other plant-based options our pea protein stands out because of how little water and land it requires.

How to use Sproud Barista as a milk substitute 

To make a long story short, you can basically swap Sproud Barista for cow’s milk in most situations. It can be used hot or cold, for barista coffee or filter coffee, in smoothies, over cereal and in sweet and savoury recipes. Expect results very similar to what you are used to if you are currently using cow’s milk.

Taste and sustainability in one drink 

When creating our milk alternative for baristas, we wanted to tick all the boxes. No GMO, gluten, lactose, dairy or soy. Great taste, easy frothing, impressive nutritional content and sustainability. 

We have already covered that Sproud is more sustainable than cow’s milk. But it is actually more sustainable than comparable plant-based options as well. 

For one, the yellow split peas used to make our drink require 10 times less water and land to grow than oats, soy and almonds.

Long shelf life, less need for refrigeration and eco-friendly packaging are additional sustainability factors for Sproud Barista. 

Locally sourced and made with utmost care 

Sproud is currently available in North America and Europe. Our peas for distribution in North America are grown and made into Sproud in Canada. Our products distributed in Europe are produced at our factory in Sweden from peas grown in France. This way we reduce the need for long transports. 

Our process requires no harmful chemical solvents. And a QA team checks the drinks before packaging. What is left over from the peas is used elsewhere. For example the outer skin of the peas is used in animal feed.

Is an espresso machine required to froth Sproud’s vegan barista style milk? 

A milk frother, which is often attached to a barista espresso machine, will make it easier to achieve that creamy, smooth and professional looking foam. But Sproud Barista can be enjoyed from home without fancy equipment as well. Just add it to your coffee as you would with regular milk and enjoy the flavours. 

Is it possible to foam the barista milk while cold?

Yes, Sproud Barista is a vegan alternative to milk that can be frothed hot or cold. 

I need a coffee creamer – is Sproud Barista up for the task? 

Yes! Sproud Barista is an alternative to barista milk, providing a creamy texture, milk-like colour and neutral taste to any kind of coffee and other hot beverages. Unlike many other coffee creamer options, Sproud Barista is not packed with sugar (there is only 4 grams of sugar per cup).

Can I recycle the packaging when I am done with it? 

Our drinks are packaged in environmentally friendly Tetra Pak. These packages are made with mainly renewable materials that can be recycled. Check locally for the details on how. 

Is refrigeration necessary for this vegan barista milk option? 

Unopened packages of milk alternative Sproud Barista do not require refrigeration. They are shelf stable for up to 365 days. Once a pack is opened, you can keep it in the fridge for up to 7 days.
